The Shot
by: Jennifer Uyanga We stood in a line together, Like a nest of mice, Stretching and warming up, Exercise after exercise. I put on my spikes And rolled out my legs As the cold wind rushed From runners’ quick pace. I stood there in lane three, Waiting for the shot, Down in ready position, Anxious to start. It felt like a million years, Waiting for the shot, As time passed by, But finally it fired. I suddenly took off As fast as an eagle through air, Rushing through the breeze, Stride after stride. Left behind Were rocks on the track, And after I finished, I wasn’t going back to the start. |
Don't Play With Your Food
by: Jennifer Uyanga Dinosaur Chicken nuggets aren't good puppets. Using ketchup as blood is like getting dirty in the mud. Combing hair like spaghetti will be tiring and make you sweaty. As you can see food gets messy. So don't be troublesome like a flea And eat your food properly. Sonnet 1
by: Jennifer Uyanga With desperate bright eyes and scrawny hands, They all go out for the one true treasure, Which is from he who rules all of the lands, Who made our fine lives, but why this torture? They walked slowly along the small rough street, And there they sought the precious pure bodies Of only fragile bones and thick red meat. It is like they have some sort of disease. But with one shot we, strong humans, survive Because through the brains of the awful dead Was the grim infection that was alive. So there we all stand among the dark red, But then the others sprawl while life unfolds With no hope, no future, but soft old souls. |
